My Handy and Cool Camera Strap.

22 Aug

As I’m sure you’ve figured out by now I just had to personalize my camera. I’m still deciding on a name for her…LOL! So, I dug into my stash and found a hemlock ring doily that I knit with a most beautiful sock yarn. (I’m sorry, I don’t remember what company made it) A hemlock ring doily that I spent sooo much time frogging and re-doing…….a hemlock ring doily that just didn’t seem to look right anywhere. Well, it has been frogged for the last time and recycled into my camera strap.

It is simply an extra long strap that is turned up at each end to form a pocket. BAM! No more forgetting which pocket, or “cup” I put my lens cap in and I can carry an extra memory card. Perfect!

Here’s the pattern:

I used a 3.5mm crochet hook.

Chain 200 and work in single crochet until your strap just covers one side of your strap. Bind off and make the second side.

The reason I didn’t make this all one piece was that I wanted it lay flat against my neck. At this point you have to decide, “Do I want to take my strap off the camera?” My decision was to crochet the sides together right over the strap without removing it from the camera. However you want to do this is fine!

Turn each end up until you achieve the length you desire and tack a few stitches on the back of the strap to hold your “pockets” in place. Easy peasy!! Now you are done. Enjoy.

I know, I know….the pics aren’t the greatest but HEY….my Olympus was in use. LOL

Until Next time!

Shower Slippers and A Road Trip

20 Jan

My hubby and I decided it was time for a road trip one Sunday. He’s been working a lot of hours and we’ve been pretty stressed about finances. So, to heck with the gas, sometimes you just have to enjoy yourself a little.

We struck out driving south, out of the city, towards Lake Erie. The day was overcast but for the middle of winter in Ontario it was a nice day. Once out of the city we just started picking roads at random as long as they went the direction we wanted to go. And it was down one of these roads that I saw a hawk the size of a toddler sitting in a smaller, bare tree. By the time I realized what I had seen, and we back the car up, it was gone. But it was flying away.

We stopped in a little town, Copenhagen, just north of Port Bruce at the Wood Connection. I love this place!

Out front you can see many of his outdoor pieces. My favorite is the window frame planters:

So on we go down into Port Bruce. I love the feeling I get when we go down that hill…almost like the real world has to stay at the top. We drove around town, took maybe a minute LOL! At the pier we saw some really large pieces of ice out on the lake and the ice hills at the shore were getting pretty huge…. here’s a pic of some kids playing on them:

So we drove around town again and headed north, back to the city. On the way through Aylmer we decided to drop in our friend Cheryl at the Hockey Arena. Her son had a hockey game and hopefully we were in time to watch. We parked beside her….. you never miss Cheryl’s van:

Those are stainless steel balls from her friends in Texas. And when she flies down the road they swing pretty well. LOL! We missed most of the hockey game. DAMN but what we saw was good!

So after going for coffee we head home. During this trip I was going to make a pair of slippers to put on after showering. Yah right! I was too busy enjoying the drive.

These slippers did turn out great!:

I really wanted something I could wear right out of the shower that would keep my feet warm and clean until I could get the moisturizer on them. These work perfectly. In fact I ended up making two pairs using a free pattern from Knitting on the Net.

Because I wanted something to put on right out of the shower I decided to make them out of kitchen cotton on size US 10.5 knitting needles. They are nice and soft and very cozy.

That’s all for tonight. C’ya soon!

Christmas Craftsanity

27 Dec

The holidays have been weird (full moon style). Is it just me? I mean the stores were pretty empty…..both stock and people. So a strange line of questions start to fill my mind. How could the shelves be empty if there were very few people to buy the stock?? Huh? Huh? And, why were people so jovial? I mean in Winners I spoke with a European Woman (beautiful accent…just hard to understand) about grandson’s, both mine and hers. In the men’s pants section, an employee was jolly and talking to herself and was kind enough to invite me to join the conversation. She was so funny and friendly. Okay……more clues….hmmmmm.

So’s I gots ta thinkn’…….did some strange alien force come down and body snatch? Some strange race bent on World Peace? (could we be that lucky??) So the holidays went on. I think maybe I was affected. It’s the only way I can explain my odd experiences in present crafting this season. Everything…. each project I worked on for a gift failed in some way. The beautiful sparkley snowflakes I was crocheting were wonderful but I could only make five. I ran out of the thread and of course the stores were out of it. Okay, at least I had five, each one unique. So I moved on. I won’t go through all of the flobs…just the last one. The one that tops it all to me.

Christmas eve, I’m sitting at my kitchen table pouring pots of lip balm and body butter. I’m hopful…that’s the key! LOL I felt confidant that this would not let me down. My faithful creams and potions had never failed me before. Hmmmm…another clue. Nothing turned out…..but of course I didn’t realize it until Christmas morning when I was puttingĀ  a 25 lb turkey in the oven. So my daughter Megan save’s the day for me. “We can go to my place and make cookies!!” AWESOME… Well I’m happy to say that the nice little photo boxes (that were meant for the crafts I was making) were packed with marsbar bars and peanut butter cookies fresh out of the oven. Wrapped nicely with a homemade snowflake in each box. Perfect!

Later that day we arrive at Sue and Tony’s (my husband’s sister and her husband). The house was beautiful! Sue and Tony bought this house, two blocks away from us, and did a lot of work. Sue did a beautiful job of decorating! And the tree and fireplace was perfect. We really enjoyed ourselves. Sitting around, each person opening a present, watching my in-laws was pretty cool. Homemade presents and thoughtfully purchased gifts were being opened. Love being exchanged. Okay….so I’m getting a little sappy, but this year was great. My Mother-in-law wrote me a beautiful poem about my love for kayaking. She captured it with her words. Amazing! My sister-in-law Beccy compiled binders with the Family’s genealogy. Pictures, documents, trees……it was excellent!

Okay…enough about that. This is my first post! There are no pics yet because I didn’t take any. Crafts failed are best forgotten. But! I will be posting pics of future projects. This will be fun!
