My “Bossy” Elemental Tarot Cards

Hey everyone! Let me tell you about the time I ventured to the Mystic Bookshop here in London, Ontario, in search of my very own Tarot deck. I already had the Ryder Waite deck, a gift from a dear friend during my teenage years, but I was on the lookout for something new, something that really resonated with me.

After doing a bit of homework, I had my heart set on the Barbra Walker set. But something unexpected happened at the shop. The lovely lady there invited me behind the counter to get up close and personal with all the decks. As I crossed through her little gate, a deck tumbled off the shelf and landed on the floor. I brushed it off as possibly just a vibration from the nearby construction and put it back on the shelf.

I spent quite some time perusing the decks, and yes, the Barbra Walker deck was there. But, as I reached out to grab it, that same deck that had fallen earlier did so again. This time, I held onto it as I continued to browse.

You’ve probably guessed by now which deck I chose. The Elemental Tarot deck seemed to be calling out to me, almost as if we were meant to be together. When I got home and opened the deck, I was pleasantly surprised to find two Lovers cards. Over the next few days, as I got to know my new cards, I decided they deserved a special bag.

A few years earlier, I’d bought this gorgeous yard of fabric with images of women washing clothes in a river and holding infants. It was so vibrant and natural, and it seemed like the perfect choice for my tarot bag.

I made a simple drawstring bag out of it, using colourful braided embroidery floss. I also crafted a little gem bag from a piece of velvet from my grandmother’s old skirt – it was too sentimental to part with. And with the leftover fabric, I created a tarot cloth, just a simple square with a crocheted edging. Everything turned out perfectly!

Since then, my Elemental Tarot cards have been a wonderful tool for self-exploration and reflection. I don’t have an ounce of regret about my purchase; it feels like it was simply meant to be. Have you ever had a similar experience? I’d absolutely love to hear

your stories! Let’s share our moments of serendipity and the little magical surprises life throws our way. Happy tarot reading and may your journeys be as fulfilling as mine!

My Response to the Bucket List Challenge

Some crazy wing-nut over on Hive put out a challenge  to post only TEN things that are on your bucket list. This sounds simple enough, right? It was really hard to narrow it down:

1. Earn a Living from "Home".

We need freedom. I don’t mind working. Work is part of everything we do. I just want to have the freedom to work from any location I choose!

Make a plan, grab the tent and kayaks and go! As long as there’s an Internet connection I’m good to go. As a mom, I couldn’t just take off like that. There was always too much going on. This empty nester is going for it.

2. Inner Peace

This probably doesn’t need much explanation. I think we all want it. Life flies by, regrets occur and grief ensues. I’m working towards chewing these issues, until they loose their flavour, and spitting them out the car window. Think I’m keeping my “Cred” on this one… time will tell.

3. Laugh Freely and Often

I often take for granted the power of real laughter! Chrissy, a long time and well loved friend, makes me laugh until I cry. After we part I feel good! When I’m sad or anxious my husband acts like a goob and makes me laugh. It’s like medicine. I’m going to enjoy this part of my bucketlist. LOL!

4. Kayaking in Iceland

A life-long dream. First I read “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” (by James Thurber) then I saw the movie with Ben Stiller. Both times drew me in. I wanted to be there. I will be one day.

5. Drive Across Canada!

I’ve always wanted to do this! From the East Coast to the West. On up to the northern territories/provinces and back across. I want to take my time, maybe camp along the way, and explore! Of course kayaks will be included.

6. Watch My Grandchildren Grow Up

Okay….. this is a little sappy and I know the clock is ticking but I’m putting it in here!

7. Always Smile at Grumpy People

I forget this way too often, especially when I’m having a bad day. You never know what people have going on in their lives. And it makes me feel good too.

8. Grow Vegetables on my Balcony

You are probably saying, “Just Move!”. No…we love it here. It’s in the perfect location….we can make it work.

9. Meet My Great Grandchildren

I know…. sappy again. My heart burst with love when I held my babies. It full out exploded when I held my baby’s baby. I can only imagine the feeling of holding a great grandchild.

10. Not to Care What Others Think

THIS sucker holds me back at times. Goes back to childhood. Do we ever grow up?

Thanks for reading my Top TEN. There is one more however that just needs to said: To perform the greatest, non retaliatory, prank on my husband. The type of prank that just makes him stare at me in wonder with “WTF?” on his lips. Thanks… I feel better now.

Battling Depression? Five Tips for Life.

Hey there! I usually keep my personal thoughts to myself on my blog, preferring to focus on life’s adventures outside my own head. But today, I want to share some insights I’ve gained over the years, especially as someone who battles depression. Here’s what I’ve learned:

So, there you have it – a little peek into my world and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. Remember, life’s a journey, and we’re all figuring it out one step at a time.

  1. Trust your gut when meeting new people. Sometimes, we sense a warning about someone but brush it off. Listen to that inner voice – it’s often right.
  2. Cherish a few close friends over a long list of acquaintances. True friends are worth their weight in gold, especially when dealing with depression.
  3. Kindness is key. It doesn’t mean you have to be a doormat. Just take a moment to think before you speak or act. It makes a world of difference.
  4. Check your expectations in relationships. We all have different backgrounds and values, so it’s essential to be mindful of that. Celebrate the moments when someone exceeds your expectations, and don’t sweat the small stuff.
  5. You reap what you sow. If you’re feeling down, try smiling at people you meet. It might just brighten both your days. And remember, if something’s making you unhappy, take steps to change it or find ways to live with it.

So, there you have it – a little peek into my world and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. Remember, life’s a journey, and we’re all figuring it out one step at a time
